2. Mail one prof in one univ. Make sure you go through his / her webpage [and more importantly figure out if its a he or a she] before mailing.
3. You will need what is known as a cover letter. Do not write a generic one. Modify each cover letter according to the prof and mention the particular project you are interested in, rather than just sending out the same email to all the profs. [it is not necessary to know much about the field you wish to intern in. look at it as an opportunity to explore a field which you think you might be interested in.]
4. Make a nice resume [PDF / HTML]. Do not LIE here. In all probability you won't, but there have been such cases before and people fail to realize its significance.
5. Get your passport ready incase you dont already have one. [it would be the saddest thing if you cant go to an intern cos of passport pangas]
